Why You Might Leave Therapy and Why You May Want To Come Back
You might be thinking of having therapy again, perhaps you have noticed that you are back in a familiar pattern of a relationship that is making you feel anxious, or maybe you are feeling flat or empty, or you are facing a significant change in your life circumstances.
Not every experience in therapy feels transformative. Sometimes the timing isn’t right, or the approach or the relationships doesn’t quite work. These experiences can sometimes help us to have a clearer sense of what we may need from therapy the next time and what might not work for us. If you looking for a new therapist its always helpful to discuss your previous experience with them especially if it didn’t work for you. It’s common for people to step away from therapy -sometimes after meaningful progress has been made or sometimes because it didn’t feel helpful. You might have taken a break to let yourself have some space to process the work that has been done. Sometimes the external realities of life – finances and time can get in the way.
